Connectivity and Data Sources

Prev Next

Data Sources: Initial Review

  • Identify which data sources are streaming in FTX and/or stored in Kafka

  • Determine what tags exist within each data source

  • Conduct a gap analysis between current data and the data needed to support defined use cases

  • Evaluate whether additional client data sources are required for completeness

Building an Architecture Diagram

  • Building a Diagram helps clarify which data sources are accessible and how the data is being retrieved

  • Having specific IPs/hostnames and source systems makes it easier for support or other members of the services team to pick up an account.

More guidelines on connectivity can be found here.

Reviewing Sample Data

  • Sample data, if available is useful for reviewing before configuration of data acquisition pipelines in FactoryTX

  • Samples should be kept in an archive and reviewed for all elements of the data readiness assessment

Process Area Investigation

In addition to data sources, artifacts of process areas should be reviewed to build a clear understanding of how factory floor operations function end to end.

The preferred approach is an on-site plant visit. When that is not possible, relevant offline artifacts can include:

  • Process flow diagrams

  • Facility layout schematics

  • Video footage of the production line in operation
