Common Questions
Q: I cannot find Control Plane in my workspace
A: Control Plane must be enabled by a Sight Machine administrator. Contact your administrator to verify that the feature is enabled for your environment and workspace.
Q: My upload shows zero changes
A: The data in your CSV file likely matches the current workspace configuration exactly. Verify that your CSV contains the intended updates and that you are uploading to the correct workspace.
Q: Two users are editing the same asset
A: Control Plane detects when another user has modified an asset since you loaded it. If you attempt to save and a conflict is detected, a modal appears showing who made the change and when. Select Load Updated Draft to reload the latest version, then re-apply your changes. See Concurrent Editing for details.
Q: Tags are not appearing in the tag table
A: Check your current selection in the navigation tree — the tag table is scoped to the selected asset. Also check active filters, which may be hiding the tags you expect to see.
Q: Tag metadata changes are not reflected in analytics
A: Refresh the analytics page and verify the change was saved in Control Plane. If you are using an external ODBC connection, the pipeline must be redeployed for metadata changes to appear. Also verify you are editing a cycle machine type — semantic overlay is not yet supported for part types, downtime, or defect models.
Q: My pipeline entered edit mode after a Control Plane change
A: This is expected behavior for schema changes. Changes to tag schema fields (data type, aggregate, forward fill), adding or removing tags, or changing machine/machine type identity fields put dependent pipelines into edit mode. Redeploy the pipeline to apply the changes. Semantic-only changes (display name, default aggregation, unit of measure, stat type, display hide, scale of measure) and display-only changes to machine/machine type (display names, descriptions) do not trigger edit mode.
Current Limitations
Limitation | Description |
|---|---|
No bulk edit | Tags can be edited one at a time inline. Bulk editing of multiple tags simultaneously is not yet supported. |
No undo or revision history | Changes take effect immediately. There is no built-in way to undo a change or view the history of modifications. |
No impact analysis | There is no "where is this used?" view to see which pipelines or analytics reference a specific machine or tag. |
No approval workflows | Changes are applied directly when saved. There is no review or approval step before changes take effect. |
No cross-asset search | The hierarchy search filters the navigation tree by name. There is no unified search across both assets and tags simultaneously. |
No shift management | Shift schedules are not configurable in Control Plane. |
Production workspaces are read-only | Control Plane displays assets in Production workspaces but does not allow edits. All changes must be made in Development or Pre-Production workspaces. |
Tag metadata overlay — cycle types only | Automatic metadata updates in analytics apply to cycle machine types only. Part types, downtime, and defect models are not yet covered. |
ODBC views not updated automatically | External ODBC connections reflect pipeline-embedded metadata. Tag list metadata changes require pipeline redeployment to appear in ODBC views. |
